Housebreaker sentenced to 20 years
The man was linked to at least five cases in the Lions Grove area.
CONVICTED housebreaker Freedom Nkosingiphile Shabane (24) of Bhobhoyi, is set to spend the next two decades behind bars.
The sentence was handed down in the Port Shepstone Regional Court last Monday.
Shabane committed at least five house break-ins and robberies in the Port Shepstone area between May 2015 and January 2016.
He stole a range of household items including cellphones, TVs, a bicycle, laptop and jewellery.
“In November 2015 he tied up an aged man in Seaview Road, Lions Grove, and locked him in a cupboard,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
He was sentenced to 14 years for robbery with aggravated circumstances; three years for theft, and three years for housebreaking with intent to steal.
The sentences will run concurrently.
