A MAN was arrested after apparently stealing a car and then crashing it into a barrier on the P200 near Gamalakhe last Sunday night.
Police from Port Shepstone K9 unit and the 10111 call centre response vehicle found the vehicle had been badly damaged.
“Although Constable Mark Banjo from the Port Shepstone K9 Unit found the vehicle was unoccupied, evidence found at the scne indicated that the occupant or occupants had been badly injured,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
Sergeant Rudi Smit and Constable Sandile Mpisane were told by community members that a man had been seen on a footpath not far from the accident scene.
They followed up and tracked down the man who appeared to have had several injuries.
He was taken under police guard to a nearby hospital. Police have since established established that the car had been stolen from a house in Port Edward on Sunday evening.
