Good news on Uvongo crime front
However, residents are warned against complacency.
UVONGO crime busters appear to be winning their war against crime.
In September the monthly housebreak statistic dropped to below 10. According to Uvongo Safety Forum chairman Ernest Booysen, this was the the first time in two years that Uvongo had registered a single figure when it came to tallying the monthly count for these crimes.
He congratulated forum members, the SAPS, Maser and Wolf security companies and everyone else involved in security and policing matters in the town.
“However, yesterday’s performance is tomorrow’s standard. We will all have to double up on our efforts to achieve these results on a continuous basis. How about a few more volunteers to come and help our Block Watch team? Come on, take up the challenge. Give us two hours of your time per month as a start and if you do not enjoy it, you can quit,” said Ernest.
He added that October had started with new challenges. Law enforcers had seen a dramatic increase in theft of motor vehicles all over the South Coast. It appeared that a gang from outside this area had moved in. Thieves were operating mainly, but not exclusively, between 3am and 6am. Ernest urged residents not to leave vehicles unlocked and to keep the keys in a safe place overnight.
He asked residents to report suspicious activities like drivers in vehicles with foreign registration plates cruising slowly through their neighbourhood.
