Clown shoots dog in face
The animal appears to have been shot at point blank range.
LOCAL clown, Clifton Connolly (36) is accused of shooting a boerbul in the face in Umzumbe last Saturday.
Mr Connolly appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on Monday this week. He did not plead and the case was postponed to December for further investigation.
According to police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, Southport police attended to a call of a shot being fired.
Officers from the Lower South Coast SPCA were also called and have opened a case under the Animal Protection Act.
It was amazing that the dog survived the ordeal, – SPCA manager, Michael Muller.
Lt-Col Wiid said it is understood that when the shot was heard, people went to investigate and saw that the dog, which stays on the premises, had been shot near the eye. The man who pulled the trigger said he believed the dog was going to bite him.
Mr Connolly was later charged with malicious damage to property. The dog was treated by a veterinarian in Port Shepstone and is recovering.
The bullet, which can’t be removed, is still lodged in the dog’s head and there is a possibility the animal may lose an eye.
