LIFE doesn’t get much worse when one is on the run from the police. It does when you then crash into a cop vehicle.
This morning, at about 7am, Port Shepstone police received a report of some ‘suspicious people’ driving a silver grey sedan.
They were believed to be involved in robberies at ATMs in Port Shepstone.
“Officers from Port Shepstone responded and once they approached the vehicle, the driver sped off,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
“There were two occupants in the vehicle and they almost crashed into the police vehicle and sped off into Bazley Street,” she said.
A back-up police vehicle arrived and whilst a police member was in a patrol van coming down Dennis Shepstone Road, the getaway vehicle crashed into the police vehicle.
One suspect was slightly injured and the other one fled from the car on foot. A policewoman gave chase on foot and warned the suspect to stop, but he refused.
A warning shot was fired, but the suspect still kept on running. However, he was caught by officers who arrived.
“Several bank cards were found in their possession and the men could not produce any driver’s licenses. The two have been detained for further investigation and could be facing charges of reckless and or negligent driving, failing to ascertain injuries after an accident and driving without a license,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
