Water tank by-laws date back decades

According to the municipality, the by-laws in question apply to all consumers who use more than 2Kl/day.

RAMSGATE resident Phil Rowley wants to know: What’s the drill when complexes want to install water tanks?

Mr Rowley says he represents several bodies corporate and that he has tried to get Ugu to comment on his queries, but with no luck.

Not so, says Ugu.

Mr Rowley said he was most concerned that all complexes, whether there were four or 40 units, had to abide by the same by-laws regarding onsite water storage.

Responding to a query from the Herald, Ugu insisted it had been in constant contact with Mr Rowley and that the correct information had been sent to him.

The municipality cannot discuss other consumers’ business with him unless it has written permission from the respective bodies corporate that he claims to represent. In the interim, we have no proof that he has such permission, –  Ugu spokesman, France Zama.

He said the by-laws in question applied to all consumers who used more than 2Kl/day.

“Complexes that use more must install storage for a 24-hour period. The 2Kl/day will be monitored annually and should there be any consumer that uses more, the by-law will be enforced.”

He said water by-laws had been in operation since the 1950s and that the Natal Ordinance was promulgated in 1963.
