Good timing ensures swift arrest
The burglar was emerging from the shop when the police officer arrived.
A BURGLAR was caught red-handed by police while emerging from a shop he had broken into in Margate on Monday this week.
At about 5am Sergeant Des Theunissen from the Port Shepstone K9 unit was on duty when he was informed about a possible break-in at a shop in O’Conner Street.
He arrived just in time to find the burglar (27) emerging from the shop with stolen ornaments.
“Sgt Theunissen arrested the man, who had forced open the shop door to gain entry, and he was detained at Margate SAPS,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
The officer contacted the shop owner to inform her that her shop had been burgled but that the stolen goods had already been recovered and the culprit arrested.
