Facelift for council chambers starts

Renovations are expected to be completed in March next year.

RENOVATIONS to the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality council chambers have officially started.

This was announced at a media briefing session held at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre on Tuesday this week.

A few months back, council  announced that R1,8 million would be spent to revamp the chambers following the merger of Hibiscus and Ezinqoleni municipalities.

The new building will have the capacity to accommodate more than 100 people including a public gallery.

Speaking at the meeting, deputy mayor, Ronnie Nair said the number of councillors and Amakhosi had both significantly increased.

“In light of this,  all meetings will, therefore, be held at various venues,” said Mr Nair.

The executive committee meeting will be held at the municipality’s executive boardroom (main building) while council meetings will be held at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre.

Renovations are expected to be completed by the end of March next year.
