MARGATE police have arrested four suspects who attacked and robbed a 77-year-old man in his house in Margate.
On September 15 at about 8pm the pensioner was watching TV. Although the man says all his doors were locked and the windows closed, four intruders managed to enter the house.
“The men demanded firearms,” said police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka. “When he told them that he did not have any, the robbers assaulted him. He was hit with a wheel spanner and stabbed with a kitchen knife.”
The men then forced him into his bedroom, where he was made to open a safe, before they tied him up with a belt. The robbers fled taking jewellery and an undisclosed sum of cash.
On September 21 police arrested two men, Bonani Shusha (20) and Yonela Ndobe (22). Two other suspects were still at large.
On December 20 Captain Raymond Shusha of Port Shepstone detectives and Detective Warrant Officer Jabulani Diba Nzimakwe of Port Edward, received information about a third suspect.
They arrested Nkosinathi Yalo (28) at Woza Ward. Port Edward and last Thursday Simphiwe Shabane (31) was taken into custody. All four are due to appear at the Ramsgate Court early in the new year.
