Beware of these crafty con-men
An appeal has been made to the public not to be too trusting of strangers.
CONCERNS have been raised about unscrupulous people pretending to be managers or high-flying businessmen in order to steal from businesses.
Port Shepstone SAPS spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid has issued a warning to businesses, particularly in the Port Shepstone CBD to be on the alert.
According to Lieut-Col Wiid, these people gain access to municipal buildings and businesses in order to steal cellphones and laptops from unmanned offices.
“Also, some members of the public have been duped into leaving their valuables with these con-men who send the unsuspecting person on false errands, either using a staff member’s name, or claiming to know them. A young man recently lost all his valuables – including his school fees – in this manner.”
An appeal has been made to the public not to be too trusting, to be aware of their surroundings at all times and NEVER to leave their valuables with anyone.
She also warned that anyone caught buying stolen property will be arrested and charged.
“Det/Const Rouen Govender is investigating a case of theft involving two laptops which were stolen from municipal offices,” added Col-Wiid.
