MERLEWOOD Secondary teachers are faced with a stern challenge.

Pupils are enrolled from various areas and accepted without prejudice, which means that teachers have to work much harder than others to achieve good results.

Last year, the school achieved a 80.37 percent pass rate with the top pupil Zizipho Msebenzi obtaining seven distinctions (English, isiZulu, mathematics, physical sciences, geography, life sciences and life orientation).

Zizipho has been accepted by various universities to pursue a career in medicine, but after much deliberation she chose UCT.

The staff of Merlewood Secondary wish her everything of the best for the future.
