Woman abducted from Pennington beach
He threatened and assaulted her when she rejected his advances.
WHILE enjoying herself at the Pennington beach on New Year’s day, a 20-year-old woman was approached by a man who – little did she know at the time – would never take ‘no’ for an answer.
Continuing to make several advances towards the woman and undeterred by her continued refusal, he eventually turned to threatening and assaulting her.
Shockingly, the man continued to intimidate the woman, then abducted her and transported her in his taxi to a house in Malangeni, Phase 2, where she was later raped.
“In the early hours of the morning, she managed to send her boyfriend a WhatsApp message, alerting him to her predicament,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.
Contacting the Umzinto SAPS, the boyfriend informed them of the situation. Unfortunately, the suspect fled before the police could arrive.
Four days passed and, on Thursday, January 5, the suspect was spotted in the Umzinto CBD, where he was later arrested.
Twenty-seven-year-old Mahmood Nkululeko Phiri – who operates under the alias ‘Tyson’ – of Malangeni appeared in the Umzinto Magistrate’s Court on Monday, January 9, facing a charge of rape.
The case was remanded.
Detective Constable Erasmus Mbutho of the Umzinto SAPS Detective Service is investigating the case.
