UPDATE: Friday, January 27

TWO abandoned vehicles were found by police after the robbery that took place at the Southcoast Mall during the early hours of yesterday  morning.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, said the robbers fled in two vehicles, and police were alerted to be on the lookout for these.

A short while later, Warrant Officer Willow le Roux from the Port Shepstone K9 unit, found an abandoned vehicle on the N2 freeway.

Some pieces of jewellery and break-in implements were found in the vehicle, which was subsequently impounded

Later on Thursday morning a second vehicle was found abandoned in the Shelly Beach area. It was also impounded.

“It would appear that the vehicles were hijacked in the Durban area earlier this month. Some of the equipment used for the break-in was also found in the second vehicle,”said Lt-Col Wiid.

No arrests have been made as yet.

THERE was an attempted robbery at Southcoast Mall  during the early hours of this morning.

Centre manager Jayne Munro confirmed that five armed suspects broke into Haskin Jewellers and Vodacom by breaking through the glass.

However they managed to escape when security responded.

Shots were fired but no one was injured

Ms Munro said they take this incident very seriously and are cooperating fully with police.

“We would also like to thank security for their quick response,” she added.
