20-year sentence for teen’s rapist

The young woman suffered severe bruising and deep scratches from being dragged behind him.

SITHEMBISO Babale Zulu Zamisa (44) was last week sentenced in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court to 20 years’ imprisonment for the rape of a 19-year-old girl.

The teen took the last taxi home to Morrison’s Post in Umzumbe on December 3 last year. Zamisa was also a passenger in the taxi.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, said that it was while walking the rest of the way home, that Zamisa grabbed her and dragged her into the bushes where he then raped her.

The young woman suffered severe bruising and deep scratches from being dragged behind him.

Her family began to look for her as evening fell and found her, injured and traumatised, along the road.  They contacted police.

Detective Sergeant Beautus Cele of Port Shepstone FCS, the investigating officer in the case, acted on information received  and arrested Zamisa shortly thereafter.
