WARNING: Scammers target car buyer
Be careful of paying money for goods you may not receive.

Scammers are stepping up their attacks on people buying and selling goods online.

Port Shepstone Detective Services are investigating after a unsuspecting man deposited a large sum of cash last Thursday in order to purchase a car which he saw advertised on a well-known website.
Needless to say, no vehicle was delivered as promised.
“The public is once again warned to be aware of online scams or requests to deposit cash for employment, goods or services from companies which may not be legitimate,” said police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka.

“Always keep your ID passport and driver’s license in a safe place. Do not give out personal information on the phone, through the post or over the Internet unless you have initiated the contact or know with whom you are dealing,” he warned.
Under no circumstances should the public reply by phone, e-mail or post to companies claiming they have ‘millions’ which they need to claim and for which they have to divulge their personal information.
