PENNINGTON was hit hard last week when two houses were broken into. In one incident, shortly before midnight on February 14, a Douglas Road resident got the shock of his life when he awoke to find an intruder at his bedside.

“He screamed at the man, who then fled,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

It was then established that car keys, house keys, a cellphone, bank cards and money were among the items stolen.
Another house was broken into at around 1.30am on Wednesday morning. “Entry was gained via an open door and an unlocked security gate,” said Captain Pandarum.

The woman was asleep while her husband was working on his laptop in the lounge.
Hearing the sound of a vehicle being driven out of their garage, the husband went to investigate. It was found that the keys to his wife’s VW Golf were missing.
