Joint police blitz in Harding results in 11 arrests for a range of offences
Various arrests for, among other offences, drunk driving, driving without a licence and drug-related crimes, were made in Harding last Friday.
PEOPLE in the Harding CBD stood stunned as law enforcement officers flooded the streets, taverns, taxi rank and bottle stores last Friday.
Police officers from Port Shepstone arrived to assist their Harding colleagues with special crime prevention duties.
Units such as the Tactical Response Team (TRT), K9 unit and other officers from the cluster management all formed part of the stop and search, blue light patrols and vehicle check point operation.
Traffic officers worked alongside SAPS officers.

Deputy cluster commander, Brigadier Bongani Sibiya, of Ugu policing cluster, was in overall command of the operation, while Lieutenant-Colonel Armstrong Machi from Harding Vispol, was the operational officer.
Various arrests were made for possession of loose dagga. “Four men were charged with dealing in dagga and another two were charged with cultivating the drug after 13 dagga plants were discovered in the yard of their panel beating business,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
A man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after blood tests showed a reading of 1,25.
Another man was arrested when he was caught driving a bakkie with children and women in the load bin. Traffic officers found him to be under the influence of alcohol and he also did not have a driver’s licence.
One hundred and fifty-nine parcels of dagga and six crates of beer were seized in one shebeen. A man was charged with dealing in dagga and liquor.

Two more crates of beer were confiscated at another shebeen. One person was charged with being in possession of a dangerous weapon and another with having no licence disc on his vehicle.
Brigadier Sibiya expressed his satisfaction with the arrests and conveyed his appreciation to all law enforcement officers who were part of the operation.
