DOMESTIC worker, 30-year-old Themelihle Ntokozo Mthembu, also known as ‘Pinky’, was arrested recently for stealing items worth several hundred thousand rands from her employer.
Mthembu appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court, where the case was remanded to March 24.
Mthembu was released on bail of R500.

“Mthembu was employed by a 58-year-old woman as a domestic helper at her flat in Arbuthnot Street, Scottburgh, from September last year until she was dismissed earlier this year,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.
During that period, the woman noticed that, at regular intervals, various items were disappearing from her flat.
She questioned Mthembu, who each time denied any knowledge of the missing items.

The woman decided to open a case of theft at the Scottburgh SAPS. Accompanied by members of the Scottburgh Crime Intelligence, Detective Constable Dillon Khamisa pounced on Mthembu at her residence in Amandawe, where a large quantity of property was recovered.
Investigations led police to two other properties in Amandawe where further property was recovered. Some of the recovered items were positively identified by Mthembu’s former employer.
