Unlicensed firearm recovered from vehicle on R61 in Ramsgate

The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing.

A MAN was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Ramsgate last Saturday.

At around midnight Warrant Officer Riaan Joubert and colleagues were performing patrol duties along the R61 near Ramsgate.

“They stopped a vehicle and were granted permission to search it,” said police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka. The officers found an unlicensed firearm and nine 9mm rounds of ammunition.

The 32-year-old man was placed under arrest.

The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine if it was used in the commission of any crimes.

The man appeared in the Ramsgate Court on Monday this week and the case was postponed for further investigation.
