State firearm recovered after police receive tip-off and swoop in Msinsini
The firearm is thought to have belonged to a policeman who was killed in Durban last month.
SOUTH Coast police may have made a breakthrough regarding the murder of a policeman near Durban last month.
Last Saturday morning Warrant Officer Themba Dlamini from Msinsini police received a tip-off and called for assistance from Msinsini police officers and the Tactical Response Team (TRT) from Port Shepstone.
They were led to a house in the Qoloqolo area in Msinsini.
“A 22-year-old man was arrested as he was found in possession of a state firearm as well as three live rounds,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

She added that the serial numbers on the firearm had been tampered with.
“However it is suspected that it is a firearm which belonged to a policeman killed near Durban last month.”
An investigation is being conducted to confirm this as well as to establish the suspect’s involvement in other cases.
The man appeared in the Umzumbe court on Monday this week, where the case was postponed to April 10 for further investigation.
