Wear army gear and risk going to jail, warns SANDF

Criminals are committing crimes while wearing army uniforms.

THE South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has issued a strong warning that wearing military camouflage for costume parties or any other function could lead to a jail sentence of up to five years.

SANDF spokesman Brigadier-General Mafi Mgobozi said that they have been receiving reports that criminals are committing crimes while wearing army uniforms. “We have seen people wearing military uniforms like a fashion accessory. This is bad for our reputation!” explained the Brigadier-General.

He pointed, out during the Armed Forces Day in Durban in February this year, that too many people were seen in military camouflage but were not part of the SANDF.

“We had a meeting about this and decided to take a hard stance against offenders.” The army did not have an issue with people who wore T-shirts and other fashion accessories that did not directly resemble the army’s camouflage, he said.
