Driver transporting schoolchildren in bakkie charged with reckless driving and overloading in Sea Park
The driver was overtaking several cars on a double barrier line whilst transporting children to school.
A DRIVER transporting school children in the back of a bakkie stopped on the R102 in Sea Park this morning and charged with reckless and/or negligent driving, inconsiderate driving and overloading.

“While on his way to drop off his own toddler at pre-school, Warrant Officer Andries van den Berg was horrified to see the driver of the bakkie overtaking several cars – including on a double barrier line on the R102 -in the Sea Park area in wet, rainy conditions during morning rush hour,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
W/O Van den Berg then saw the driver stop at a busy traffic light intersection, presumably to pick up more passengers.
“The officer, together with other police officers, then approached the driver and arrested him,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
There were 15 children from various schools in the back of the van, ranging in age from five to 16 years. Two more scholars were in front, along with the driver.
The driver was taken to the Port Shepstone police station and charged.
The driver was also breathalysed as he was smelled of alcohol. However, he found to be under the legal limit.

“We encourage the public to report this type of behaviour to the nearest police station or other Law Enforcement officers. We also want to advise parents and guardians to make sure that their children are left in the hands of responsible drivers,” she said.
The driver will appear in court soon.
