Home-made firearm seized after armed robbery in Mvutshini
Excellent teamwork by Margate police resulted in the arrest of two men.
MARGATE police have arrested two men who robbed a tuck shop in Mvutshini near Ramsgate recently.
According to police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka, the shop owner heard gunshots and two men entered the shop. “They took an undisclosed amount of cash, clothing, airtime and cigarettes. A business robbery case has been opened,” he said.
Margate Tracing Team followed up on information and arrested two men aged 20 and 22 from Nkampini Ward near Gcilima. They were arrested by Detective Warrant Officer Michael Welsh, D/W/O Vusumuzi Mapitsha, D/Sergeant Michelle van Niekerk, D/Sgt Senzo Mlambo and D/Constable Zolile Sibisi.

Police seized a home-made firearm, cigarettes, seven rounds of R5 ammunition, two 308 rounds and one 9mm round. The men were charged with business robbery and possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence.
“The 20-year-old was also linked by D/Sgt van Niekerk to other cases of housebreaking and theft which took place near Mbambi High School in March and a house robbery which took place in the Sodom area at Gcilima near Southbroom,” said Captain Mfeka.
The two have appeared at the Ramsgate Court where the case was postponed for further investigation.
