Suspects in Umdoni Municipality break-in arrested

The premises have been burgled twice.

TWO men have been arrested in connection with the burglary at the Umdoni Municipal premises in  Park Rynie in April and are now in police custody.

Municipal staff had locked up their offices on Friday, April 7 and headed home for the weekend. Upon their return on the following Monday morning, it was established that the offices had been burgled.

Entry had been gained by forcing open the garage door.

It was further established that a battery, two brushcutters, a chainsaw and a full toolbox had been stolen.

“Investigations led members of the task team, Warrant Officer Yugen Moodley and Detective Constables Cliffy Pillay and Weidon Govender, as well as Sergeant Preshan Ishwarlal of the Umzinto K9 Unit, to Park Rynie on April 25,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

A 19-year-old suspect, who had pawned the stolen items, was arrested.

Later that day a second suspect, a 25-year-old man, was also arrested in Umzinto.

Other property was recovered, linking the two criminals to a second burglary at the same municipal offices over the  Easter long weekend, as well as another burglary in Station Road, Kelso, during the night of April 20.
