Southport man arrested on child porn charges – released on bail
Shockingly, there are presently six cases involving child pornography on the regional court roll.
AS South Africans observe Child Protection Week from May 27 to June 2, a Southport man was arrested on child pornography charges on Tuesday this week.
He was released on R2 000 bail by Magistrate Bryan Munilall at the Port Shepstone Regional Court.
The 30-year-old man, who has children of his own, was charged with being in possession of 152 images of child pornography.

These included what are reportedly explicit images of children between the ages of two and six years.
During his first appearance, the state apposed bail on the basis that when he got wind that he was to be arrested, he deleted the photos from his cellphone.
These images were however recovered by the SAPS Crime Intelligence Unit with the assistance of International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol).
The case was postponed to June 24, for further investigation.

Senior Public Prosecutor, Sohana Moodley said possession of child pornography is a serious offence and merits a permanent imprisonment because it promotes exploitation of children and encourages sex offenders to abuse children.
She added that there are currently six cases involving child pornography on the regional court roll.
