Margate Moves: Lots of great shows coming up

Another fabulous offering at the village is the annual Christmas show on December 9.

 

LOCALS often complain that they are starved of good entertainment, however, over the next few weeks they are going to be spoilt for choice as there are many great shows and a wonderful festival coming up.

One of the highlights is the concert by the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra. It takes place at the Azalea Hall, Margate Retirement Village on Saturday, November 11 at 6.30pm.

Another fabulous offering at the village is the annual Christmas show on December 9.

Heart of gold

If you love the music of Neil Young, the Eagles or Bob Dylan then be sure to book for `California Sunshine’. The tribute pop-up show featuring the Black Lapels will be staged at Southbroom Golf Club next Sunday, October 22.

The talented Durban group has compiled a brilliant production featuring the birth of the Los Angeles music scene.

Tickets cost R220 which includes an American diner-style burger-in-the-box meal. To book phone the club at 039 3166026. Take note booking is essential.

Pianist returns

Acclaimed pianist Christopher Duigan will perform at the next Classics at Riverbend concert. The acclaimed pianist has played with both the Johanesburg and KZN Philharmonic Orchestras.

The concert takes place next Friday, October 20 at 6.30pm and will be preceded by a free wine-tasting from 5.45pm.

Tickets, at R100 per person are on sale from Riverbend Crocodile Farm’s shop.

Boots and pipes

To celebrate the first anniversary of the popular monthly car boot sales at the Hibiscus Mall in Margate, the organisers will celebrate with a special performance by the Margate Pipe Band.

If bargain hunting is your thing this is the perfect place to find those treasures. Also on sale will be arts and crafts. This community upliftment project is well worth supporting.

Bikers get together

This Friday all paraskevidekatriaphobians need to stay in bed. But bikers are urged to get down to the Village Tavern in Margate for another Friday 13th jol. The Old Bastards Motorcycle Club invites other bike clubs to don their colours and get to the tavern where a variety of events will be on offer from 2pm. There is no entry fee. Food and drinks on sale.

Calling all lit wits

The Ramsgate Book and Art Festival will provide a platform, not only for the bookish, but for literature, arts and crafts, dance and music.

Hosted by the Ramsgate Conservancy and Ugu South Coast Tourism’s Ramsgate Area Committee it takes place from November 10 to 12.

The festival will be held at various venues in the village such as the Whale Deck, Artists’ Gallery, Gaze Gallery, the Waffle House, Crayfish Inn, Lobster Pot, Tinker’s Den and Burlesque Cafe. Book readings, meet and greet opportunities with South Coast authors, creative writing workshops and youth poetry performances are on the programme. And the conservation-minded are urged to take part in the Ramsgate Marine Ramble. Men united

Last weekend’s Mighty Men Conference held at Southcity Church in Ramsgate enjoyed excellent attendance. Local organiser Hennie Forbes said thanks to the success of the inaugural three-day event, the conference would return to the South Coast in 2018.
