Just In: Four life sentences for uncle who killed sister’s children

He reportedly told the court that he had planned to take the children's ears to a sangoma.

Four life sentences were handed to Ben Mbhele (32) in the Pieternaritzburg High Court today for the murder of his sister’s four children in Ncukeni area near Kwa-Nzimakwe in September last year.

Mbhele pleading guilty on all four counts.

Three of the children’s ears had been severed, and Mbhele reportedly told the court that he had killed his two nieces and two nephews because he needed their ears to take to a traditional healer.

The state however contended that he had killed the children as he was the beneficiary of funeral policies taken out in their names.
