The designer, who matriculated at Mangquzuka High School in Umzumbe, has always wanted to pursue a career in fashion design, which is why he studied towards it at the Durban University of Technology. Being selected as a semi-finalist for SAFW was the type of validation Sipho needed as an up-and-coming menswear designer.
For the competition, Sipho will be showcasing his Spring/Summer 2019 collection from Tuesday, April 13 to April 17 in Johannesburg. He stands a chance of winning R100 000, an all-expenses paid trip to Florence, Italy, a chance to showcase his Autumn/Winter 2019 Collection at SAFW in October this year; and many more prizes.

“I have participated in many minor shows such as Sustainable Living Exhibition by eThekwini Municipality, Musgrave Flower Project exhibition and SAFW’s student competition that was showcased last year in Pretoria; but being selected as a semi-finalist for a competition of this calibre has made me realise that my dreams are valid,” said Sipho.
Besides the GQ menswear scouting competition, Sipho is working on collaborations with Durban-based designers like Amanda Laird Cherry, the Holmes Brothers, as well as Johannesburg-based photographers and jewellery artists.
