Margate Light Plane Club gets new wings

Melville and Martie Hollamby made it their mission to get members together again.

Members of the Margate Light Plane Club (MLPC) and Powered Para Gliders Club (PPG) got together in March this year to revive the club. A month later Melville and Martie Hollamby from PPG made it their mission to get members together again. The club re-opened recently and, as a special treat, breakfast is now served early on Sunday mornings before pilots and gliders take to the air.

Melville told the Herald that it was time for new beginnings and therefore a special meeting was held on April 20 where a new committee was elected. Louis Mante, who is an honorary life member of the MLPC, led the meeting and the voting process.

The new committee comprises Melville Hollamby (chairman), Romley Wundrum (vice chairman), Martie Hollamby (secretary), Richard Hopkins (treasurer), Ilse Venter (PRO and events coordinator) and Kevin Gundry and Jean-Marié du Preez (additional members).

The club opens on Friday nights and everybody is welcome to bring their own meat as fires will be available for a braai.
