Phathwa Secondary appeals for help to make the school premises safe again

The school has become a dangerous environment.

A group of grade 12 pupils at Phathwa Secondary School in Gcilima has embarked on a fund-raising campaign to help the school beef up its security after being under siege from criminal elements.

As part of their business studies subject, with special focus on corporate social investment, grade 12B pupils and their teacher, Cebolenkosi Khowa, are appealing to private individuals and companies to lend a helping hand.

This after the school’s security fence was breached when criminals broke into the school and stole a number of items, including cash from the principal’s office.

A school security guard was badly beaten up during the incident.

Compounding matters, the big hole in the fence has seen drug dealers gaining unfettered access to school premises to sell drugs to pupils.

The school has become a dangerous environment for both pupils and teachers.

What the school needs as a matter urgency is a proper fence which will stop rogue elements from having uncontrolled access to the school premises.
