Go classical

There’s a treat in store for lovers of classical music at Riverbend Art and Wine Gallery in Southbroom. The Siberian Trio comprising Boris Kerimov, Liezl-Maret Jacobs and Elena Kerimova will present a few iconic pieces by Beethoven at the Classics at Riverbend concer on Friday, May 18 at 6.30pm. There will also be a free wine-tasting from 5.45pm and tickets at R100 per person are on sale at the curio shop at the crocodile farm.

Pop and folk

If you prefer your music on the pop/folk side then don’t miss the performance by Rowan Stuart who will entertain at Rocky Ridge in Ramsgate on Sunday, May 13 at midday.

The singer/songwriter was inspired by Sting (Gordon Sumner) and he has collaborated with Just Jinjer and Nibs van der Spuy.

Rowan will soon launch his fifth Album `Faraway Deluxe’ and will perform numbers such as `Prayer to the High Wind’ at the gig. Entry is R60 per person.

More music

Acclaimed blues/rock outfit, Salty Dog, will present a tribute to the Beatles at Rocky Ridge this Friday (4th) from 8pm. After the legendary music of the lads from Liverpool which includes hits such as `Love Me Do’, `Born in the USSR’, `Yellow Submarine’ and of course `Hey Jude’ the band will play an extra set of 60s and 70s classic rock.

Tickets cost R70 per person.

Champers, canapes and a wedding

To celebrate the wedding of his Royal Highness Prince Harry Windsor to Miss Meghan Markle Southbroom Golf Club is hosting a champagne and canape luncheon with the live airing of the Royal Wedding.

Save the date – Saturday, May 19 from midday.

Bike fest was great

While the planned mass motorcycle ride was cancelled last Sunday – although a few hundred bikers did the out ride – due to the slippery road conditions, it failed to put a dampener on South Coast Bike Fest.

So far all reports about the event have been positive. One of the headline acts also pulled out at the last minute but those who did perform treated their fans to fabulous music.

Speaking at the Presidents’ Meet and Greet held at Margate Sands last Friday, Justin Mackrory, CEO of Ugu South Coast Tourism said the presidents of the visiting biker clubs had all given the fest a massive thumbs up. The organisers can all take a deep bow for putting Margate back on the map.

Condolences

Deepest sympathy goes to Derek Walton who runs the Ramsgate Recovery Centre on the sudden death of his wife Shannon. She was a well-known body-building champion. Her memorial service was held at the centre on Monday this week. Paying tribute to their mom her two young children, Caleb and Hannah helped their dad to plant two yellowwood trees in the grounds of the Recovery Centre.
