Ramsgate Conservancy spokesman David Hallé said his organisation had reported the matter to the relevant authorities and that he had been in close communication with them.

Vegetation of the river bank has been cleared and a jetty built.

He said the matter was now under investigation. Should the vegetation clearing and the construction activities prove to be unauthorised and illegal, his organisation looked forward to legal action being taken.

Mr Hallé said he and members of the conservancy looked forward to hearing from the relevant authorities soon and to finding out the results of their investigations.

He said he would remain in touch with the officials who were investigating the matter.
