Hibberdene Happenings: Donate some much-needed winter warmth

Blankets, jerseys, tracksuits, and any other warm clothes are most sought after.

AN appeal is being made for ‘Winter Warmth’ by both the Methodist Church and the Lions Club of Hibberdene. Blankets, jerseys, tracksuits and any other warm clothes are most sought after and may be handed in at the church or to the Lions at the clinic.

Bumper weekend

The combination of the five-day long weekend (for some) and the South Coast Bike Fest led to Hibberdene experiencing a really busy weekend, both on the beach and in town. Parking was at a premium and business really brisk. The roar of motorcycles echoed throughout town day and night and it appears to have been a bumper weekend.

Food and fellowship

The Methodist men’s breakfast takes place this Saturday (5th), at the church at 7am. As last month’s was cancelled due to several people being either ill or away, a good attendance is expected this weekend. Cost is only R20 per person for a morning of fantastic food and fellowship and all men are welcome to attend. Contact Louis Nortje at 039 6992610 for more information.

Popular market

Also on Saturday, Mtwalume’s flea and craft market takes place at Koelwaters Resort from 9am. This event too was cancelled last month due to inclement weather and so a bumper crowd is expected to turn up for this month’s outing. There will be a great vibe, with music, food and snacks and all the usual flea market attractions. Contact Sue at 039 9721425 to find out more.

Jumble sale

The church’s ‘Lady Bugs’ are holding a jumble sale in the parking area above Pick n Pay from 9am onwards on Saturday, June 2 and any donations of second-hand clothing or household goods will be gratefully received.

Youth camp

Here is a special message for young people from grades 6 to 12: The Methodist churches on the lower South Coast are pleased to announce that their sixth Winter Camp will be held at Silver Oaks Retreat Centre, Marina Beach, from June 23 to 27, a period of four nights.

This promises an exciting time, whereby the boys and girls will be given a holiday, good food, entertainment, fun and a meaningful spiritual programme by a very experienced leadership team.

Your contact in Hibberdene is Ken Walker, who may be contacted at 082 3790656 or the church office at 039 6992948.

Congratulations

Newly-elected trustees of the body corporate of Hibberdene River Resort Willie Loots and Hendrik van der Merwe join previous trustees Mark Hopcroft, Elize Gomez and Marthie Loots to form this year’s committee. They are wished a successful year in office.

Sad tidings

Condolences are extended to Willie and Marthie Loots and Hendrik van der Merwe on the death of a much-loved brother-in-law Willem Voght, in Durban, two weeks after marrying Hendrik’s sister, Esther. He had suffered from cancer, which spread rapidly throughout his body.
