Big plans in the pipeline for Sheppie CBD

The ongoing parking issues in the Port Shepstone CBD are said to be part of many plans the municipality has to improve service delivery.

Parking problems in the Port Shepstone central business district might soon be a thing of the past if Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s plans to improve service delivery are successful.

At a recent press briefing, the mayor,  Cynthia Mqwebu, told reporters that management had been very happy with its performance over the past five years and was planning to improve its pace on providing service delivery to its communities.

The ongoing parking issues in the Port Shepstone CBD are said to be part of many plans the municipality has to improve service delivery.

In her statement, the mayor said, apart from their service delivery plans, which included instilling maximum discipline; increasing productivity and creating centres of service excellence, the municipality had resolved to adopt further plans.

The plans, as explained by the mayor, include; developing electricity and roads infrastructure plans, using a more aggressive approach to bring in revenue for the municipality, providing parking solutions for CBD users as well as maintaining their clean audit, just to name a few.

“These will be operational in the current term until 2022,” Cllr Mqwebu said.

For many years, motorists have struggled to find safe parking in the Port Shepstone CBD, resulting in traffic being backed up at times.

Motorist and Albersville resident, Ashveer Singh, told the Herald that RNM should prioritise the CBD as most business owners rely on customers to make their profit.

“We need safe parking so that our customers can spend enough time in shops without having to worry about how safe their cars are or having to break the law and double-park their vehicles,” said Mr Singh.
