Everyone is encouraged to explore what KZN has to offer

The aim of the session was to remind the public of the role they play as ambassadors for their province and tourism.

Tourism KwaZulu-Natal (TKZN) hosted a media engagement session at Desroches Hotel during the recent  South Coast Bike Fest. TKZN is currently running the ‘DO KZN’ campaign which promotes destination marketing and encourages locals to travel within their own province.

The purpose of the session was to encourage South Coast Bike Fest patrons to explore other parts of the province and share with each other all the fun, adventurous, romantic and cultural activities which may be found within KwaZulu-Natal. The session was also to remind them of the role they play as ambassadors for their province and tourism.

According to a statement from the provincial tourism department, the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Sihle Zikalala, said tourism had major economic spin-offs for KwaZulu-Natal and had already proven to be one of the mainstay economic sectors with the potential to unleash massive business and employment opportunities.

“It is important that everyone, particularly the people of KZN, sees the important role that they also play in tourism, beyond those who are directly employed in the sector. ‘Do KZN’ encourages the people of KZN to travel, explore and enjoy KZN, but we also want them to take pride in the role that they play in growing the sector,” said Mr Zikalala.

He added that, when tourists come to KZN, it is not only the people that are on the frontline of the sector, such as tourist guides and tour operators, who ensure that tourists have a memorable holiday. It is ordinary citizens who assist them with directions, who work at restaurants, taxi drivers and street vendors that make this province known the world over for its warmth and hospitality.
