9 Things you need to know when applying for a child support grant

Avoid turning up at the Sassa offices without the required documents.

Social grant applicants are often burdened with not knowing the requirements or what to take with when visiting their nearest SASSA offices.

This can often be tiring and confusing to those who are desperate to get access to the grant.

According to SASSA, the following are required when applying for Child Support Grant:

  •  Applicants must be the primary caregiver of the child/children concerned’
  • The primary caregiver must be a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee.
  •  Both the applicant and the child must reside in South Africa;

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • The child must be 18 years of age or younger;
  • Primary caregivers must provide a birth certificate for the child they are applying for;
  •  Primary caregivers must provide a 13 digit bar coded identity document;
  • The child/children must have been born after 31 December 1993;

  • The applicant and spouse must meet the requirements of the means test;
  • The applicant cannot apply for more than six non biological children;
