New funding initiative in launched to help uplift communities
A lot of thought has gone into how best to promote Springboard in the remotest parts of South Africa, places where funding opportunities are generally scarce.
The Make an Immediate Difference Foundation (MAID) is launching a new initiative aimed at individuals and organisations who are working to uplift their communities but lack the financial support to realise this dream. Aptly named Springboard, this new initiative seeks to provide a financial boost for people, whose projects fall under one of six fields of interests including family and community, technology, sport, visual and functional art, theatre and music.

For the past two decades, MAID has supported a number of individuals and organisations on a range of projects including supplying cooking appliances in children’s homes, renovating accommodation in retirement homes or providing musical instruments to aspiring musicians and art materials to a range of schools. Traditionally, the MAID Foundation’s connections with beneficiaries were serendipitous; introductions reliant on sharing similar personal networks.
The Springboard Initiative, in keeping with the MAID Foundation’s philosophy of offering easily accessible funding, sees the introduction of a straightforward and concise application process, opening up the possibility of funding to a greater scope of people.
Apart from the new application process, a lot of thought has gone into how best to promote Springboard in the remotest parts of South Africa, places where funding opportunities are generally scarce. Teaming up with facilitating organisations including but not limited to community leaders and groups, technical colleges, and hospitality providers, Springboard is taking a grassroots approach to empowering those looking to uplift their communities.
By partnering with these facilitating organisations, we hope to reach candidates who may not have access to computers or the internet. In addition, members of the Springboard team will be touring South Africa towards the end of May, providing information on the application process and answering any questions that may arise.
Candidates may apply online or download an application form from the website – www.maidfoundation.org. Once a candidate has applied, they will receive a notification with a unique reference number. The application window closes on 31 July 2018 and successful applicants will be announced on 31 August 2018, after which a funding schedule will be discussed and agreed upon.
If you’re interested in applying for funding or know of an individual or organisation who is, please visit the website www.maidfoundation.org. Alternatively, you can contact them on 081 397 2256 or info@maidfoundation.org.
