Umtamvuna Views: Golfer Martyn takes a bow … again!

The women’s champion was Rita Kinghorn.

PORT Edward Country Club held its annual golf championships last weekend. Twenty-five members enjoyed the challenge of the greens in perfect, sunny weather. After the competition on Sunday, golfers and friends enjoyed a luncheon and prize-giving. Club captain Pat McCormick presented the prizes, generously sponsored by Migamed Pharmacy and Port Edward Spar. The men’s club champion this year, for the second consecutive year, was Martyn Nagtegaal and the women’s champion was Rita Kinghorn.

Birthday braai

Carla Hart, club manager of Port Edward Country Club, celebrated her birthday last Friday. She organised a bring and braai and a fun evening around the bonfire at the club for friends. About 50 people joined her in the celebration.

The Peg and Punter restaurant in Port Edward has been taken over by locals Bernard and Tracy MacDonald (owners of Splash Saverite). Although not completely finished, the new restaurant is now called ‘Spuds’, is open seven days a week and offers light meals on their trial menu.

Happy birthday to Denise Ralfe for May 3. Denise enjoyed a festive gathering with her friends at Jeannette Offer’s home (affectionately known as ‘The House of Commons’) last Sunday. All news to Philippa.

Port Edward Country Club manager Carla Hart and her partner Mike Davidson celebrated Carla’s birthday with friends and family last week.
