Glebelands Hostel man sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for attempted murder

His victim was lucky to survive being shot twice.

Bongani Mbhele (33)  was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment by the Scottburgh Regional Court for the attempted murder of his  friend, Thobile Mazongolo.

The two had been at the Glebelands Hostel on September 30, 2016 and had decided to oppose the forced removal of hostel residents. Mbhele is said to have witnessed Mazongolo ‘betraying’ him and planned an ambush. Mazongolo was shot twice, once in the head, as he left his room.

He was fortunate to survive.
