Margate hotel owner denies legal battle, closure claims
Staff had reportedly been told to pack up and go because the hotel would be closing down.

The owner of Desroches Hotel in Margate has refuted claims that the hotel would be closing down.
This after many people had reported that the hotel would be closed down by the end of May due to an ongoing legal battle between the current body corporate and some unit owners in the hotel.

“The hotel is struggling to make money. The ongoing court battle is between management and several unit owners, who have accused the body corporate of misusing their share in profits,” said a former staff member.
However, the director of the hotel, Sizwe Zulu, said the body corporate only collected levies and rates from the owners in question and did not manage their units on their behalf.
“I own 85 percent of the hotel and we do not do booking for anyone’s units other than the ones we own. We only provide cleaning services to those units.”
Mr Zulu also said there was no legal battle against him.
On claims that staff had been told to pack up and go because the hotel would be closing down, Mr Zulu admitted that there were staff members who had been fired for certain reasons.
“Our restaurants are still open and operating; so is the hotel,” he said.
