Ashleigh takes a bow at Banana County Radio Control Racing Club

Stuart McGregor finished in second and Shane Sandison raced consistently to finish third.

Banana County Radio Control Racing Club held a lovely evening of on-road racing at Douglas Mitchell Sports Club last Friday evening. Evert Bezuidenhout’s beautiful red Alfa body won the concourse, which was well-deserved. The qualifying rounds were challenging with Ashleigh O’Reilly dominating all three, but the midfield was where the fun was.

Ashleigh won, Stuart McGregor finished in second and Shane Sandison raced consistently to finish third. In Grand Touring Modified, the cars were fast and literally flying around the track. In the first qualifier Dennis Steenmans broke his shock tower and Johan Coetzee broke the suspension arm on his car. It was such a pity because they had a good battle going with Evert.

Unfortunately they couldn’t qualify for the final race, but Nimrod Maritz showed good sportsmanship by allowing Stuart a good challenge. Evert also put in some good lap times and finished in third. Nimrod’s fastest lap time was 18.9 seconds.

Juanita Coetzee (left) from Shelly Beach and Kylie McGregor from Port Edward did a sterling job as marshals for the Banana County Radio Control Racing Club’s on-road racing held at the Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground last weekend.

In TT01 Stock, the girls had fun – Melanie O’Reilly showed good consistent driving and started on the front grid for the final. Juanita Coetzee had the fastest lap times, but Kitty Steenmans managed to stay ahead in the final. Thanks to Kylie McGregor and Juanita Coetzee for sterling marshalling.

The off-road race takes place at Douglas Mitchell Sports Club next Sunday (3rd) at 3pm and braai fires will be available.
