Hibberdene Happenings: Two 54th wedding anniversaries are celebrated
Your scribe and hubby Steve celebrate on May 30 and Irene and Bill Enkerwitz on June 7.
Three cheers
Your scribe and hubby Steve celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary today (May 30th) – amazing how time flies when you’re having fun! Other anniversaries will be celebrated by Raymond and Lee-Anne Bransby (June 6), Irene and Bill Enkerwitz will also celebrate 54 years on June 7, and Elize and Sarel Bradbury on the 10th.

Good effort
Thanks to Marina Loubser and friends for a sizeable donation of bread sealers for the wheelchair fund. Don’t despair if you only have a small bank bag full to donate – every little bit counts and all are gratefully received.
Church breakfast
The on/off Methodist men’s breakfast is due to take place on Saturday, June 2, at 7am at a cost of R20 per person. Please make an effort to attend this event – where else can you have a delicious meal, a time of fellowship and a speaker – for only R20? Confirm your attendance by contacting either Louis Nortje at 039 6992610 or Debbie Fletcher at the church office at 039 6992948. And please feel free to take along a friend or two.
Jumble sale
At the same time as the men are meeting, the church’s Lady Bugs will be manning their jumble sale, above Pick n Pay, at about 9am. Please support them by donating your second-hand clothes, kitchenware, etc, and remember that some lovely warm clothing will be particularly appreciated with winter fast approaching. Items may be left at the church office.
A spot of tea
The women are also planning a ‘Post-Royal Wedding Tea’ on Thursday, June 14, at 9am. Entrance fee is for women to wear a hat or a head piece of their choice and men a tie, while a plate of something either sweet or savoury will be most welcome. It should be great fun.

Winter camp
Time is running out for young people from grades 6 to 12 to book for the Lower South Coast Methodist Church’s annual Winter Camp which will be held at the Silver Oaks Retreat Centre in Marina Beach from June 23 to 27. A wonderful time is guaranteed, so make sure you reserve your place by contacting either Ken Walker at 082 3790656 or the church office at 039 6992948.
Take a drive
If you have no interest in watching the TV broadcast of the Comrades Marathon on Sunday, June 10th, then head on down to Clansthal where a market in the interests of conservation, will take place. Rural and local crafters will put on a display of clothing, arts, crafts, jewellery, food and cold drinks at 111 Pig and Whistle Drive, Clansthal from 9am to 2pm. As the venue is a private residence with dogs on the property, marketgoers are requested not to take their own dogs along. For further information, contact Liz at 083 5568108.

Jean Shannon of Umdoni Retirement Village was the lucky Tiago’s winner, Louise Kersten of Mtwalume received the Fifi’s Fresh Fish prize and Hannetjie Heunis and Ronnie de Haas won the Jolly Roger Fun Pub voucher and Christmas cake respectively.
