Tweni Talk: Conservancy cleans up the ‘Tweni dump’
The conservancy has decided to clean Tweni up bimonthly and invites residents to volunteer.
FOLLOWING a request from a local resident, Umtentweni Conservancy held a mini work party to remove a fallen tree and overhanging branches from the corner of Commercial and Conway Roads last weekend.

This spot has been used as a gathering place for people to drink and litter. Hopefully by removing the tree that was being used as a bench and overhanging branches to reduce the shaded area, conservancy members have hopefully discouraged this as a meeting place.
Weekend revellers
Over weekends, people are still gathering and revelling on the corner of Abingdon and Link Roads, drinking and gambling. According to Gill van Heerden, one drunk woman stumbled and fell into the road nearly causing an accident.
Help clean up
Thanks to John and Shirley Bower from JC Licensing for their generous donation and to Sean Donald for the cool drinks. People who volunteered their time were Jan Meyer, Denise la Mude Graham, Liz Willey, Cheryl Aveyard and John Bower.
Due to the slow response or lack of service from the Municipal Cleansing Department managed by Duncan Jama, Umtentweni is looking like a dump.
The conservancy has decided to clean Tweni up bimonthly. If anyone would like to volunteer, please contact Liz Willey at 082 3771423.
In a flash
A fire was reported at Bamber Crest, but luckily it was contained to the kitchen area after the frying pan of oil and chips caught alight. There was a lot of smoke damage. These days, it’s so easy to get distracted, so let this be a reminder to all that accidents happen in the blink of eye.
Be vigilant
Crime is on the increase, please be aware that criminals wander through your yards at night – some with bad intentions and some are opportunists looking for things to steal. Sad, but true. Try to make it really difficult for them to gain access to your property.
Venue change
Tweni CPF meetings will now be held at the Umtentweni Library on the last Tuesday of the month at 5.15pm.

Your scribe would like to take this opportunity to thank management and staff of Umdlalo Lodge and Zizi’s for accommodating the group over the past four or five years – going back to when Roy Antrobus was in the chair.
Thank you
Camera coverage has increased and the CPF can now boast nine live streaming cameras, thanks to John Saunders of Venturenet and Arthur Edwards of AW Edwards Electrical for maintaining them regularly. Thanks also go to Mervin Curnow from Curnow KZN for his personal insurance, as well as all generous sponsors who make donations.
Sold out
The ‘Its High Time for Tea’ camera upgrade fund-raiser at Royston Hall on June 8 is sold out. If you missed a seat at this one, there will be another tea. The date will be advised. Please remember to support the ‘Muddy Boots Market’ where traders have a lovely mixture of new and pre-owned goods, and there are delicious treats and interesting crafts on sale.
