There was such a huge response from the community that it became an annual event.
This was their way of giving back to South Coast Hospice, which assisted their friends when they needed it most during their illness.
In the interim, the number of friends who were being remembered was growing, so they decided to rename the event ‘Fallen Friends’.
This year the competition took place at Buccaneer’s Pub and Grill in St Mike’s and raised a whopping R104 170. Added to this figure, the auction alone raised R23 000.

South Coast Hospice fund-raiser BT King said hospice salutes everyone for their dedication, enthusiasm and perseverance in their efforts of fund-raising for those less fortunate than themselves.
“They have supported South Coast Hospice through the difficult times to allow us to continue with offering palliative patient care within our local communities,” she said.
“This may seem like a large amount but we can assure you that every cent and every rand raised counts and we couldn’t achieve this without the support of our wonderful pool community.”
Winners of the pool competition were Ray Hubbard and Marius Dalton. First prize in the raffle went to Nadia Cozzi.
