On a Ward 18 Whatsapp group, Councillor Doug Rawlins asked yesterday (Sunday) if the town had been cleaned on Saturday evening as there was rubbish in every street in the Port Shepstone CBD.

In response to the message, Head of Department for Ray Nknoyeni Municipality’s Community Services Mthandeni Ndwalane replied that it had not been cleaned and agreed it was terrible.

The contract of the service provider came to an end last week Thursday. The new contractor will be appointed this month. I should have arranged for internal staff to work over the weekend, I apologise. We shall sort everything out tomorrow morning and this will never happen again – Mthandeni Ndwalane.

On Sunday, the Herald visited the Port Shepstone CBD and found it to be in a disgusting mess, and saw just one cleaner picking up litter.
