Local ANC powers restored with new structure
The decision came as a result of the local party's failure to hold a regional conference.
Last Saturday, the ANC’s top brass took a decision to do away with the Lower South Coast Regional Executive Committee (REC) by appointing a new interim structure to run day-to-day activities in the local office.
The new interim structure will be headed by Mzwandile Mkhwanazi as convener and Nontembeko Boyce as a coordinator.

Harry Gwala mayor Mluleki Ndobe and ANC MP Enock Mthethwa were deployed to oversee the new structure, which will include all former REC members.
The decision came as a result of the local party’s failure to hold a regional conference, as explained by the party’s national Deputy Secretary Jessie Duarte to all REC members.
At a special briefing hosted by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Provincial Task Team (PTT), Mrs Duarte said the disbanding of this was done in terms of the party’s constitution and had been necessary, as the REC had gone beyond its term of office.
“It was in compliance with the constitution to disband the REC,” said Mrs Duarte.
According to local ANC spokesman, Selvan Chetty, the new RTT has full powers.
“The new Regional Task Team (RTT) will manage all processes leading towards the regional conference and will be assisted by deployed senior members of the province (PTT) who will provide support to the RTT,” said Mr Chetty.
