84 years young

Popular Port Edward resident, Jeannette Offer, celebrated her 84th birthday on June 2. Her friends organised a ‘Gathering of the Clan’ at Ramsey Gardens Restaurant last Saturday.

Jeannette Offer (front, middle) of Port Edward recently celebrated her 84th birthday at Ramsey Gardens restaurant with friends and family Bev Farren (back, left) and Nana Ngcoya and (front) Denise Brass, Gil Drop, Heidi Loach and Anne Wells.

About a dozen women, including her two sisters and daughter, Rosemary, enjoyed a delicious breakfast , followed by a homemade birthday cake.

Jeannette has lived in the area for about 30 years, most of those years benefiting local tiny tots when she worked as a nursery school teacher for the Lighthouse Play School.

Jeannette is a keen bowler and a serious social butterfly and is loved by all.

Social bridge

Last Thursday, almost forty aspiring bridge players converged on Southbroom Golf Club for a morning of fun bridge. There were varied levels of expertise, but everyone enjoyed the low-pressure social bridge.

Hopefully some will be encouraged to join the weekly duplicate bridge mornings at the club.

All players are welcome. For more information, contact Eric Annegarn at 082 5510068.

Knitting wizard

The Christian Ladies’ Fellowship held a meeting at the Methodist Church Hall last Tuesday. About 30 guests enjoyed the get-together, listening to an interesting talk about Silk Road.

The Methodist Ladies’ Outreach, which supports the Siyakhula Crèche near Braemar, displayed knitted and crocheted articles made especially for the 18 children at the crèche.

Organiser Nerine Fourie (right) congratulates Alice Lumley, who was voted winner of best knitting project at the recent Christian Ladies’ Fellowship gathering.

The beautiful lilac jersey knitted by Alice Lumley was voted the best and she went home with the floating trophy. The icy weather has suddenly arrived and heaters and electric blankets are very sought after currently. Keep warm and have a good week. All news to Philippa.
