The fire not only incinerated the steps to the beach, but also damaged a section of the kiosk’s roof.

Although it is not known who started the fire, some are speculating that it might be a group of vagrants.

Tweni’s kiosk is powered by Umthunzi Hotel and Conference in Umtentweni.

General manager Ryan Ringo said he was travelling back from the airport when his friend Rudi Steyn notified him that the residents’ group had reported that the kiosk was on fire.

I asked him to attend and said I would be there as soon as possible, Lazer was already in attendance and the fire department arrived just after I did. Thanks to everyone for their quick response time and great assistance – Ryan Ringo

Derrick Morris, chairman of the Umtentweni Ratepayers’ Association said the residents will be collecting money to try and get the steps repaired.

Anyone interested in donating can contact Mr Morris at 082 909 9995.

No response was received from Simon April, spokesman of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, when asked if the municipality will be able to assist with replacing the damaged steps.
