Second Shoreline Challenge beach walk done and dusted

Sunny weather (and the sight of sardines) set the scene for enthusiastic walkers for the Southern Shoreline Challenge from Hibberdene beach to Umzumbe last Sunday.

They were taking part in the second of the eight beach walks that make up the new Shoreline Challenge. The walks, each of about 5km in length, will be held every two weeks to try to coincide with the lowest tide.

The first shoreline challenge, the brainchild of environmentalist Dave Hallé, was held in 2009 and saw challengers completing six walks from Hibberdene to Port Edward.

The proceeds will be used for a number of worthy environmental projects. The next Shoreline Challenge takes place from Umzumbe to Southport beach on Sunday, July 8 at 7.30am.
