Snares are wiping out our wildlife, says SPCA
Join the search for snares this Saturday (August 4).
The gruesome discovery of a dead and decomposed buck caught in a snare in the Shelly Beach area has spurred field trainee officer Werner Taljaard of the Lower South Coast SPCA to take action.

He is calling on the community to join him and help him search for snares this Saturday, August 4.
Trainee officer Taljaard said snares were a massive problem on the coast and were claiming the lives of much of the coast’s wildlife.

He added that he had seen another buck running into the bush last week with a wire snare around its neck.
“The buck had freed itself from the snare, but the wire stuck around his neck is causing him more suffering,” he said.
Everyone is asked to meet at the Wild Waves holiday apartments in Shepstone Road, Shelly Beach at 8.30am.
